What we collect
- Basic analytics. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which articles are reaching readers and how readers find Hartley. Analytics data is aggregated and not tied to individual identities.
- Newsletter email addresses. If you subscribe to the Hartley newsletter, we collect your email address so we can send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time with one click.
- Contact form messages. When you contact us through the site, we receive the contents of your message along with the contact details you provide. These are read by editorial staff only.
What we do not collect
- Your location beyond country-level analytics
- Your search history outside of Hartley
- Cross-site tracking data
- Any health information you have not voluntarily provided in a contact message

Hartley uses minimal cookies — essential cookies required for the site to function and basic analytics cookies. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. If you visit Hartley with cookies disabled, the site will still work.
Children's privacy
Hartley publishes content for teens but does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information to us, please email privacy@thehartley.org and we will delete it.
Updates to this policy
This policy was last updated in May 2026. Material changes to our privacy practices will be reflected on this page before the change takes effect. We will not change these practices quietly.
