The reporting other publications can't do.

Forty articles in development on the troubled teen industry, programs that have caused harm, regulatory failures, and the people working to fix them.

Most teen treatment publications are owned by — or paid by — the programs they cover. We aren't. That gives us the freedom to do reporting that other behavioral health sites can't and won't.

The investigative cluster is Hartley's accountability journalism. It's the cluster we expect to be cited in major media when stories break, and the cluster that earns Hartley the right to be trusted in the easier ones.

Articles here are research-heavy, sourced rigorously, and offered to programs for response before publication. Some are timeless backgrounders on systemic patterns. Some are tied to active legal cases, regulatory action, or program closures. All are reviewed for legal exposure before they run.
